In this article, we explain where MA 1 measurement data is stored. This data can be backed up, for example, when installing a new computer or replacing an existing one, so that it is available in MA 1 on the new system as usual. Therefore, it is not necessary to perform a new measurement when using a new computer.
Similarly, if you're having issues with MA 1, it may help to rename this data path so that MA 1 starts up as if it were newly installed
The MA 1 measurements/alignments are located in a hidden share.
Windows: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Automatic Alignment
MacOS: /Users//.local/share/Automatic Alignment
(In Finder, open up your Macintosh HD folder. Press Command+Shift+Dot. Your hidden files will become visible.)
Specifically, they are in the “Constellations” or “Multichannel Constellations” folder. You should also back up the “Sound” folder.
If you are working only in "Stereo" or "Stereo with bass management", you will find your measurements in the “Constellations” folder. In that case, you only need to back up this data plus the “Sound” folder.
If you also have multichannel measurements (e.g., 7.1.4), these measurements are saved in the “MultichannelConstellations” folder, and you should also back up this folder.
If you back up these two or three folders, you can access them on another system (both macOS and Windows), for example, by copying them to the appropriate location.
By the way: Sometimes it can also be helpful to reset MA 1 to its default settings. In this case, you can also rename this complete folder "Automatic Alignment". Afterward, MA 1 will start up as if it were newly installed and automatically recreate the folder upon first launch.
Existing measurements from the backup folder can then be transferred manually, or you can choose to perform a new measurement.
