TROUBLESHOOTING
MAC OS Configuration Guides
It is highly recommended to follow our configuration guides prior to operating the RAVENNA/AES67 Virtual Audio Device Driver. MacOS Configuration recommendations
VAD Core Audio Settings
For proper driver functioning check that the VAD Preferences panel is showed with all LEDS showing green.
Note: When the interface is shown as available, the system could take some time to configure the interface (several seconds).
Latency and Clicks Audible pops can occur when using some third-party audio interfaces or depending on the speed of the processor. To avoid this problem increase the Hardware Buffer size for the device. You should aim for the lowest possible I/O buffer size value that doesn't introduce clicks, pops, and crackles in the audio. If pops and clicks persists try reducing the IO count in the VAD panel.
Security Firewall
The Mac Firewall can block RAVENNA/AES67communication, in case of issue we recommend that you turn it off.
Privacy
We recommend that you disable the Parental control as well
VAD Performances
Run the VAD and send us a screenshot of the VAD panel with the debug view open when your performance issues happen.
Procedure
Open the MT VAD Preferences menu and select "Show Performances Stats".
(Legacy - VAD 3.0: Click on the bottom version number to open the VAD debug metering mode)You will see a drop indicator; this one should not increase during real-time operations.
It will increase during sampling rate changes but should not in real-time, such as during a recording or playback.Check the green meters readings, the bottom scale indicates the latency and what your system is capable of.
In the example here, the system can work with a latency of 1.33ms, it's latency goes up to 1.1ms (green arrow).
If the latency measurements would go above the 1.33ms (or if setting a lower latency), there will be drops as the system will not be able to handle those. with such configuration and apps in place.Make a screenshot of the VAD panel when you have performance issues.
Finally, please close the Debug mode / Statistics once you are done as this one consumes extra resources, it’s not recommend to run it permanently.
Click on the version number to close it out. Please send Support the VAD Panel screenshot, your VAD driver and MacOS versions, your RAVENNA/AES67 device(s) and firmware version, and additional remarks if required.
Uninstalling the Merging Virtual Audio Device (since 4.0)
Use the uninstall MT VAD from the MT VAD Preferences menu.
Uninstalling the Merging Virtual Audio Device (prior to v4.0)
Use the uninstaller to remove the Merging Virtual Audio Device completely.
10Gb Ethernet
10Gb Ethernet Adapters are not certified for VAD usage.
Please consider the use of an Thunderbolt to ETH adapter as per below, if you have such a Hardware Interface.
Thunderbolt AVB Adapter - SONNETTECH
Wifi and performances
Depending on the Wifi quality, the computer network performances might be degraded (including non-wifi interfaces), please disable it if you have performances issues.
MISC
VAD Static Discovery
Launch remote control by providing IP:port and the device’s name in the VAD advanced pages under the “Static Discovery” tab.
As per example below by replacing w,x,y,z with the Anubis IP.
An orange dot will appear on the Anubis in Static mode.
