- Navigate to System Settings > Privacy and Security. Select Microphone and ensure any application that requires microphone access (such as your DAW) is enabled.
- In the System Settings > Privacy & Security menu under Security, ensure that applications can be downloaded from both the App Store and identified developers. FileVault should also be Off.
- Turn off any unnecessary Notifications and Calendar alerts from within System Settings > Notifications. It is recommended you leave NeumannMT48Agent notifications ON. For notifications that are enabled, consider turning off Sounds which can be a distraction while recording.
- Consider turning off any unrelated processes such as Firewall, iCloud, Siri etc. These processes can interfere when recording.
- In System Settings > Network, click the three dots towards the bottom right and select Set Service Order. Drag the Neumann MT 48 to the top of the Service Order list and click OK. Your mode of internet (ethernet, WiFi) should be second in the list.
- Also in System Settings > Network, select the MT 48 in the service order list and press Details. Disable the Limit IP Adress Tracking setting if enabled.
- Ensure all drivers for peripherals are up to date and check for software updates. In System Settings > General select Software Update. Disable automatic updates so as to avoid any potential conflicts that may arise as the result of an operating system or application update whilst recording. Always ensure compatibility between the operating system and any software before updating or upgrading the Mac OS.
- In System Settings > General, select Login Items. Consider restricting what programs open at login and are allowed in the background to strictly what is necessary.
- Avoid using USB hubs and generic USB cables, and instead use direct connections with the manufacturer’s cabling.
- Install any DAW audio content such as loops, sample content, as well as recorded project data on a separate drive or partition from your OS drive.
- Backup audio files regularly, ideally in several locations. If your DAW has an Autosave feature, consider implementing it.
- Backing up your Mac with Time Machine is recommended so long as this is done manually. If automatic Time Machine backups are enabled, the backup can occur when recording and can cause problems or interruptions.
- In System Settings > General > Time Machine, uncheck "Back Up Automatically" to turn off automatic backups.
- In Music > Preferences, disable any Sound Enhancer in the Playback options. If any sound enhancement is selected, any audio will not be the original referenced audio!
- We specifically recommend the Sonnet AVB Thunderbolt adapter for AES67 utilization of the MT 48 on Mac OS.
